I joined YNU from fall semester of 2019 and was the first and the only international student at Prof. Fudeyasu’s Lab.
My enrolment at YNU was a very unique case as I was enrolled at a different department (Urban Innovation) but I did my research under the expert guidance of Prof. Fudeyasu. The arrangements between the department Professors were very smooth and I did not face any difficulties.
I was informed about the expertise of Prof. Fudeyasu in the field Meteorology by my good Japanese friend (JICA expert) Mr Koji. That is when I decided I must do my Master’s degree under Prof. Fudeyasu’s guidance.
Due to COVID 19, I returned to my country Fiji and continued my studies and research from there for several months. We always had zoom discussion regarding my research and I never felt I was left out.
I must write about the very inspiring and supporting nature of Prof. Fudeyasu. Under his supervision, I learnt a lot and got the opportunity to do presentation in two other big Universities namely Nagoya and Ryukyu University. This experience has further enhanced my knowledge and built confidence.
The Lab members are also very friendly. They are always willing to help and provide guidance. Mr Kiyohara also has always been very helpful from the very beginning.
I should say overall Prof. Fudeyasu and his team member are just fantastic. Being an international student, I never felt like an outsider or not being welcome.
I have successfully completed my Master and now it feels 2 and half has passed very fast. The research I did is very relevant, and this will be a new tool the forecasters at Fiji Meteorological Service will use daily.
I will for sure miss all the team members when I return to Fiji.
Wishing you good luck in future endeavours.
Thank you all.
